DCVI Teaching Artists – Accepting Applications for the 2017-2018 School Year
DANCING CLASSROOMS is a social and emotional learning and arts-ineducation program teaching ballroom dance to children during their school day. Our mission is to cultivate essential life skills in children through the practice of social dance. Our vision is to meaningfully participate in the development of schools and communities where every child is connected, respected, and provided a safe environment in which to thrive. TEACHING ARTIST REQUIREMENTS:
Dancing Classrooms Teaching Artists are: actors, dancers, individuals who can move with rhythm; have excellent interpersonal skills; love kids; able to work in a team; able to receive performance feedback; work in a classroom; have a generous spirit; a sense of humor, a love of language, of rhythm; willingness to take risks and have fun; professional demeanor and conduct; excellent communication and organizational skills; individuals who will provide a police background check to the V.I. Department of Education.
WHERE: St. Thomas-St. John and St. Croix School Districts
TRAINING: Applicants must be available to attend an unpaid training in NYC July 1014, 2017. (Travel and expenses in New York will be paid by Dancing Classrooms Virgin Islands, Inc.).
DATES: The position runs for the duration of the 2017-2018 school year, with the intention of working at least 2 consecutive school years.
TEACHING SCHEDULE: The position is for 2-4 days per week in a school between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Training commitment is non-negotiable. Please do not apply if you’re unable to commit to attending training or to teaching approximately 8 hours per week (may be more or less).
STIPEND: Teaching Artists will be paid for each 10-week course taught.
